Presentation by property rights group probes excesses of ‘sustainability’

Author, journalist and former European bureau chief for Life Magazine, Elizabeth Nickson will be the featured guest speaker of a presentation entitled "Surviving Sustainability in the San Juans," sponsored by Citizens Alliance for Property Rights, Saturday, Oct. 12.

Author, journalist and former European bureau chief for Life Magazine, Elizabeth Nickson will be the featured guest speaker of a presentation entitled “Surviving Sustainability in the San Juans,” sponsored by Citizens Alliance for Property Rights, Saturday, Oct. 12.

The presentation begins at 7 p.m., at the Mullis Senior Center, 589 Nash St., in Friday Harbor.

A resident of Salt Spring Island, B.C., Nickson is the author of “Eco-Fascists: How Radical Conservationists are Destroying our Natural Heritage.” In the book, published in 2012, she relies in part on personal experience in making a case in how otherwise laudable efforts toward conservation and sustainability are turned upside down by radical environmentalists.

Lopez Island’s Ed Kilduff, geologist and environmental consultant, will provided an introduction for the presentation and moderate an audience Q & A. Kilduff will also offer a wrap-up with information about how the effect of the sustainability movement in San Juan County.
