Dana Lyons live in concert on May 3 for Whale Museum benefit

Singer/songwriter Dana Lyons comes to Friday Harbor on May 3 for a show to benefit The Whale Museum. Best known for his signature song "Cows With Guns," Lyons is on tour to share his new album "Three Legged Coyote" around Washington state.

Singer/songwriter Dana Lyons comes to Friday Harbor on May 3 for a show to benefit The Whale Museum.

Best known for his signature song “Cows With Guns,” Lyons is on tour to share his new album “Three Legged Coyote” around Washington state.

“Cows With Guns” was named No. 1 For The Year on Dr. Demento, No. 2 on Australian country charts, and spent 10 months on Seattle’s Top 40 and six months on Ireland’s Top 40. He has been called a current-day Pete Seeger by the Bellingham Weekly, and an out-of-control Johnny Cash by The Western Front.

Lyons will perform in the Friday Harbor House San Juan Room at 7 p.m.. Tickets are available at The Whale Museum, 62 First St., for $15 per adult and $5 for those 18 and younger.

The opening act is local singer/songwriter Ian Byington.

The evening is sponsored by Friday Harbor House and San Juan Update with proceeds going to the educational mission of the Whale Museum.

Founded in 1979, The Whale Museum’s mission is to promote stewardship of whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem through education and research. In addition to providing exhibits, the Museum also provides programs including: the Orca Adoption Program, Soundwatch Boater Education, Marine Naturalist Training, San Juan Islands Marine Mammal Stranding Network, and the Whale Hotline.
