Spring Street International School’s annual “Spring Fling” auction and community celebration is one of the most successful fund-raisers on the island, raising more than $40,000 each year to support the school’s programs.

This year’s event is extra special because it celebrates the school’s 15th year of providing “quality education with a world view.”

The Spring Fling is May 8, 5-8:30 p.m., at the San Juan Island Yacht Club. Tickets are $25 per person, $40 per couple.

Hors d’oeuvres and dinner will be served. Auction items include:

— Round-trip international business-class airline tickets to worldwide destinations.

— Tom Small sculpture, “Three Enchanted Lakes.”

— Jason Napier sculpture from the collection of Pam Nichols.

— Romantic getaways and dining adventures.

— Framed artwork by Beth Hetrick, Alison Johnston, and Becky Kilpatrick.

— Spa and professional services.

— Cooking class with Duck Soup Inn Chef Gretchen Allison.

— Fishing expedition with professional fisherman Matt Marinkovich.

— Travel treasures from Thailand, India and Peru.

Tickets are available at the door or by calling 378-6393. Online viewing of auction items is available on May 1. Proxy bids will be accepted by arrangements with the school.

Spring Street International School was founded in 1995. It provides an intensive academic program and experiential education, including field trips, wilderness experiences and an overseas program.

The school has 70 students and 19 or 20 employees, 16 of which are teachers, Admissions Director Jerry Riley said. The school is located in the historic Nash House — residence of an early Friday Harbor mayor and state legislator — on Spring Street and Blair Avenue. Other school buildings include classrooms next door and a dorm on Blair Avenue.

Countries represented in this year’s student body include China, Ethiopia, South Korea, Spain and Sri Lanka.
