The Soroptimists of Friday Harbor want to express our sincere appreciation to Danna Diaz, superintendent of the San Juan Island School District, who was the spark and driving force behind the recent showing of the wonderful documentary “Dolores” at the community theater. Danna was the individual who envisioned the benefits of showing the film here, encouraged the Friday Harbor Film Festival to acquire the film, and inspired the Soroptimists to cover the costs.
Danna was motivated by her desire to bring history to life for her students, and both the film itself and the special, personal visit by Dolores – the woman who is the subject of the film – made the event extremely memorable to students and to the adult members of our community who attended the showing.
The Soroptimists appreciate all that the Friday Harbor Film Festival and San Juan Community Theatre did to make the Dolores event successful, and we particularly salute Danna Diaz! Si, se puede.
