Kiwanis Club of Friday Harbor is pleased and proud to present this years Fourth of July Pig War Picnic at the Historical Museum Park.

This well-loved community event is free, and takes place immediately after the parade (which starts at 10:30 a.m.).

Bring your family and friends, the kids and the grown-ups, and join us for some good old fashioned clean family fun.

We will hear sets by the One More Time Band, The Tease, and On the Fly-unplugged. Mike Vouri, in all his regalia, will present the Pig War Story; parade awards at 1 p.m.

Soggy Bottom Gals will make an appearance. Island Rec will put on the three-legged race and other historic games; Soroptimists face painting, Harbor Rental bucket rides, the Museum cakewalk, Islanders Bank Pie Eating contest at 2:15 p.m.

This year there will be no requests for admission at the door. Your full and complete pig war picnic lunch with drink (pulled pork sandwich or kosher dog, chips, pickle, cole slaw) is $10 for adults, with a kids plate option for $5.

The really great benefit of this event is that because of the generosity of our major sponsors: Islanders Bank, American Legion Auxiliary, King’s Market and Browne’s Home Center, as well as many additional community sponsors who have underwritten the event, every single dollar you spend, whether for lunch, hot fudge sundaes or a stop in the beer garden, goes straight back into the community, to the kids.

This year Kiwanis gave $7,250 to nine recipients for high school scholarships. We gave to the Boyscouts, Fish for Teeth, American Red Cross and the Family Umbrella Group.

Kiwanis funds bought picnic tables for the museum, supported senior projects, after-school programs, Key Club; we bought Halloween candy, and of course, we put on the Christmas Toy Drive each year. These events wouldn’t be possible without your donations and all our volunteers.

So, come out to the Pig War Picnic. Have a wonderful Fourth of July, eat, drink and be merry while you celebrate our nation, and the wonderful community in which we are so fortunate to live.
