Friday Harbor opens play in the 16-team, 2B state tournament May 29, in Yakima, on the heels of a 10-6 win over the Braves in the district championship game, May 21.
Community Events, May 2015
With the win, the Wolverines clinched second place in the Northwest 2B/1B League and will begin post-season play against the same Vikings Saturday, May 16, at Stanwood High School, beginning at noon. The winner will advance to the championship game, where a berth at the 2B state tournament will be up for grabs.
Caitlyn Domenech swatted a solo home run to lead off the opening inning, a first-ever for the four-year veteran, and Lauren Ayers crossed home plate in the first frame as well, giving the Wolverines an early 2-0 advantage and all the offense they would need to seal both the victory at home and no less than a share of the 2015 Northwest 2B/1B League title.
Friday Harbor (7-1 league, 11-6 overall) muscled its way to the top of the Northwest 2B/1B League standings thanks to a razor-thin 3-2 win at home over La Conner May 1, avenging its only loss in league play (a 3-1 defeat at La Conner April 14) with the victory as well.
The Friday Harbor girls tennis team will host three consecutive matches, April 29, May 1 and May 6, beginning at 4:15 p.m. at the high school tennis courts, before finishing their regular-season schedule on the road, May 8, at Forest Ridge.
