He then said that I must first see a recent restoration by Art Lohrey that was bobbing at his mooring just outside his office and showroom.

The Gobbler Classic Golf Tournament is Saturday at San Juan Golf and Country Club. The tournament is comprised of three-person teams. The entry fee is $50, which includes green fees.
Danny Cumming and the Western Washington University Vikings are bowl bound. The Vikings (5-3 conference, 5-5 overall) claimed a berth in the 23rd annual Dixie Rotary Bowl, thanks to a second-place finish in the NCAA Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference. They were bested only by nationally-ranked Central Washington which, at 8-0, defeated all comers in conference play.
Only three boats reached the halfway mark at Patos Island and the race was called at this point. Flash, skippered by Steve Travis, finished first overall. Braveheart, skippered by Charles Burnet, finished second. Icon, skippered by Kevin Welch, finished third.
Buoyed by a partisan crowd, a Friday Harbor volleyball hobbled by injuries nearly pulled off a stunner in its regular-season finale Oct. 28 in Turnbull Gym. Leading 25-24 in the opening game, the Wolverines needed just one point to put the Northwest 1A/2B League’s second-place team on the ropes and themselves in the drivers’ seat.
The Friday Harbor Wolverines’ soccer season came to an end with playoff losses to Meridian and Lynden Christian, Oct. 30 at Whatcom Community College. Facing Meridian, the Wolverines fell behind early (0-2 at the half) and were unable to recover.
Talk about a Halloween surprise. The Friday Harbor football team, short-handed and on the road, turned in perhaps its best performance of the year with an electrifying 35-6 victory over Lynden Christian on Halloween night.

Whitney Porter scored her 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th goals of the season to help lead the Wolverines to a first-round soccer district playoff win Wednesday against Coupeville. The Wolverines, who finished the regular season 9-1 league, 10-5 overall, defeated Coupeville 4-2. They could advance to the tri-district tournament Nov. 5 with a win against Meridian at Whatcom Community College. Win or lose, Friday Harbor plays Saturday at Oak Harbor High School against a to-be-determined opponent.
The Wolverines completed the regular season on the road Monday, beating Concrete 5-0. The Wolverines (10-5 overall) are in the district tournament, which began today. The tri-district tournament begins Nov. 5.
The Friday Harbor volleyball team notched win No. 3 at home last week with a three-game sweep of the lowly Concrete Lions, winless so far this season. But dismantling Concrete for the second time this season offered little cause for celebration; the Wolverines tallied a victory despite a lackluster outing.
Five Wolverines advanced to post-season play in spring as Friday Harbor thrashed the Coupeville Wolves at the district playoffs, Saturday at Coupeville.
Take a glance at the stat sheets and it looks like a stalemate. But in the end, it’s the numbers on the scoreboard that matter. And the Friday Harbor football team ended up with eight points too few at home Saturday against Meridian in a rematch that was even closer than the 21-13 final score might suggest.
