Cumming, WWU in Rotary Bowl Game Dec. 6 at St. George, Utah

Danny Cumming and the Western Washington University Vikings are bowl bound. The Vikings (5-3 conference, 5-5 overall) claimed a berth in the 23rd annual Dixie Rotary Bowl, thanks to a second-place finish in the NCAA Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference. They were bested only by nationally-ranked Central Washington which, at 8-0, defeated all comers in conference play.

The Vikings (5-3 conference, 5-5 overall) claimed a berth in the 23rd annual Dixie Rotary Bowl, thanks to a second-place finish in the NCAA Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference. They were bested only by nationally-ranked Central Washington which, at 8-0, defeated all comers in conference play.

The Vikings will face the Orediggers of the Colorado School of Mines, located in Golden, Colo., this season’s runner-up in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Orediggers are 7-2 conference, 8-3 overall.

Cumming, a junior, was a three-sport standout at Friday Harbor High School. He appeared in nine games with the Vikings as a defensive back this year and earned the starting nod in four. He is credited with 18 tackles this season.

Sponsored by Rotary International, the Rotary Bowl takes place at Dixie College’s Hansen Stadium in St. George, Utah, on Dec. 6. Kickoff is at noon. You can watch the game on Altitude’s Direct TV Channel 644 and 661, and DISH Network’s Channel 410.
