The mechanics of local government will be in the spotlight Monday, Feb. 9, with the boss of the Town of Friday Harbor featured as guest speaker at the next gathering of the League of Women Voters of the San Juans.

The presentation by Wilson, who took over the town’s top executive post in 2012, in the wake of the retirement of longtime administrator King Fitch, is entitled, “Government 101.”

The meeting is noon to 2 p.m. at San Juan Island Library, 1010 Guard Street.

A licensed attorney with more than two decades experience in the complexities of municipal law, Wilson joined the administrative ranks of Friday Harbor following a five-year tenure as administrator of the city of North Bend, home to nearly twice the population of Friday Harbor, the seat of county government in the San Juans and San Juan County’s only incorporated town.

Wilson was attorney and deputy city manager of the city of Covington prior to joining the nearby city of North Bend.

In addition to the specifics of how Friday Harbor functions, Wilson will discuss the structure of local government in general, and how it relates to the federal and state systems, issues of concern for the town and the county, and a review of governmental revenue sources and expenditures, commissions and committees.
