Please protect Sasha
Like many on San Juan Island, I’ve been following the case involving Sasha, the senior dog removed from her home after serious injuries were discovered.
This is not an easy situation, but one thing is clear to me. Sasha deserves safety and real care. A vet confirmed that Sasha had a painful, untreated wound under her collar and nails so overgrown they curled sideways. These are not signs of love. They are signs of neglect. Thank you to the person who reported her concerns, and thank you to our local sheriff’s deputy and veterinarian who stepped up to protect her.
Because of their work, we have recorded facts and undeniable evidence. Now it’s up to the Court to do the right thing.
Abusers do not walk in the light of day for all to see, so it is my belief that Sasha should not be returned to the home where she was hurt. She should be allowed to heal in peace. And when the evidence supports it, those responsible should face the consequences our laws provide. Sasha has already suffered enough. Let’s not fail her now.
Sincerely,
Sam Leigh,
San Juan Island
