Islanders enjoy food, beverage, and sunshine at the San Juan Island Brewery following the Great Island Clean-Up

During the Great Island Clean-Up Saturday, April 20, 120 volunteers collected 1,213 pounds of trash from across 115 miles of island roads and beaches.

A party was held at the San Juan Island Brewing Company after the clean-up, where islanders were awarded annual Finnies for their environmental work. Those awards went to Phil Green was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award, Orcas Island’s Xoe Chue was presented the Individual Award, and Jesiah Gibson of Lopez was given the Youth Award.

The San Juan County Environmental Stewardship Department also thanked their partners and supporters – Friends of the San Juans, Stewardship Network of the San Juans, Lautenbach Recycling, San Juan Sanitation, San Juan County Conservation Land Bank, Bureau of Land Management, San Juan Island Visitor’s Bureau, Department of Ecology’s Community Litter Clean-up Program, San Juan Island Brewing Co., Alchemy Art Center, Green Beat Kitchen, Adrian Xavier and Ska Island.
