Revised rules in store at English, American camps

Just in time for summer, kite-flying and driftwood forts would now appear to be good to go at the San Juan Island National Historical Park.
National Historical Park Superintendent Lee Taylor has issued a “compendium” of park-use regulations and has asked for public comment within 30 days before the new rules take effect.

The new rules will also open both parks from dawn to 11 p.m., permit responsible alcohol use at English Camp, and liberalize the quantity of fruit, berries, mushrooms, empty seashells and beach glass that people can collect to a “for personal consumption” standard.
Horseback riding on the Mitchell Hill trail network at English Camp no longer requires a Special Use Permit. Special Use Permits are still required for any commercial uses and for groups of more than 20.
