FH spotlight: Pacific NW lighthouses, with author Elinor DeWire, Saturday

Historian and author Elinor DeWire will present a colorful and virtual “armchair tour of Pacific Northwest lighthouses, Saturday, May 19, beginning at 3 p.m. at the San Juan Historical Museum Resource Center, 425 Price Street.
DeWire’s appearance and virtual tour, entitled “Evergreen Lighthouses, Washington & Oregon”, is presented in conjunction with the many local events featured as part of National Historic Preservation Month, in May.
The tour travels up the west coast, from Cape Blanco to the Columbia River and Portland, then on to Cape Flattery and into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the San Juan Islands. The tour traces through the San Juans, with stops at Lime Kiln, Patos Island and Turn Point, and then ventures to the tiny sentinel at Point Roberts, and journeys south to Admiralty Inlet, Puget Sound, Seattle and Olympia.
Along the way, you’ll meet lightkeepers and their families, their animal companions and be introduced to a ghost or two. The tour also features true tales of shipwrecks, storms, fog and an assortment of odd and unusual events.
Local lighthouse preservation groups will be on hand to provide information about efforts to maintain and preserve the lighthouses at Patos, Turn Point and Lime Kiln.
