Friday Harbor fastpitch fights the Vikings

The Friday Harbor Wolverines fastpitch team defeated the Orcas Vikings, 11-6, in its first league game this season at Orcas on April 5. The weather was wet and windy as the Wolverines battled their way to a tie at the sixth inning.

A home run swing into right field by Baille Lambright signaled a shift in the game’s tone in the top of the seventh. Overall, Friday Harbor tallied 16 hits to Orcas’ six. Liz Cruz, Bristol Halverson, Ava Hoffman, Olivia Germain and Thea Seitz each hit multiples for the Wolverines. Soma Andrews, Darcy Ayers and Jayna Ott each completed a lap around the bases for a point; Germain, Hoffman and Seitz went twice; Halverson, 3; Lambert, 4; and Cruz, 5. Ott was struck by the pitch in the top of the first.

The team was allowed three walks, struck out nine times, had 8 RBIs, stole seven bases, and went to bat a total of 38 times.

On Tuesday, April 9, the Wolverines stay home to play La Conner at 4 p.m. Then there is a double-header for the team against Concrete at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.
