First year on the team. A couple of first-place medals. And then, a first hole-in-one.

The 2012 golf season just keeps getting better for Friday Harbor sophomore Christo Bolger.

Boosted by a hole-in-one on the 4th hole, Bolger outpaced the Lobos’ Michael Reeve by two strokes to a first-place finish as the the Wolverines traveled for an inter-island match against Lopez. Bolger “feathered” an 8-iron into the wind and “the ball took two hops and went right into the cup,” Coach Jack Rice said.

Friday Harbor’s Brandon Erickson shot 48 on the front and back nines to finish the match at 96.

In the women’s field, sophomore Kendra Meeker, in her first outing of the year, tallied a 43 on the front nine and a 42 on the back, to notch the low score of the day of any golfer, an 85.

“If her putting had been on, I’m sure she would have broken 80,” Rice said.
