Dec. 4, the Town Council discussed the installation of a crosswalk and controlled stop at the intersection of Spring and Mullis streets. No action was taken.

The discussion took place in an effort to respond to requests made to the town to address pedestrian crossing concerns associated with the Village at the Harbour assisted-living apartments, Inter Island Medical Center, Islands Convalescent Center and Friday Harbor MarketPlace.

The Town Council was presented with two design concepts. Concept A provides for the installation of a pedestrian bump-out, narrowing the street to one-lane west bound on Spring Street. Concept B maintains the existing travel lanes but does not increase pedestrian visibility or reduce the amount of pedestrian crossing time.

Both designs involve the installation of a three-way stop and are consistent with the engineering analysis for the intersection.
