July 6

• A deputy responded to a Lopez Island residence after an alarm company reported an entry alarm at the location. It was determined that no crime had occurred and a report was completed.

• An Orcas Island woman reported fraudulent use of her credit card. An investigation into the case continues.

• An Orcas Island deputy initiated a traffic stop and cited the driver for speeding, using a cell phone without a hands free device, and failure to register the vehicle in 10 years.

• A deputy stopped a driver on Fisherman bay Road near the Lopez Village and issued him a ticket for speeding.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a report of malicious mischief and trespassing at an Eastsound business. There are no known suspects and a report was taken.

• A deputy met with a Lopez Island resident regarding found property. The found property included a Nevada driver’s license. The items were taken and stored until the owner is located.

July 7

• A part-time Lopez Island property owner reported someone possibly squatting on a their land. The responding deputy searched the area but found no evidence of squatting.

• A visitor to Orcas Island was bitten by a dog at the dog park. The dog was current on its vaccinations, and no serious injury occurred. The visitor requested no further investigation and just wanted the incident documented.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor responded to a non-injury accident. A police traffic collision report was taken. The at fault driver was issued an infraction for failure to yield and no insurance.

July 8

• A vessel was given an infraction for day use only violation at the West Sound San Juan County boat dock.

• A deputy was dispatched to a theft that occurred over two weeks ago in Friday Harbor. An investigation was conducted and a report written.

• A Lopez Island deputy was dispatched for a possible mental subject who grabbed the shoulder of a child, scaring him. The deputy contacted the subject and warned her not to have physical contact with strangers.

• The sheriff’s office was notified of alleged maltreatment of a child in Eastsound. Child Protective Service was notified and responded. Through the course of the CPS investigation, they found the report unfounded.

July 9

• A deputy was dispatched to a “family problem” in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy contacted the involved parties. An information report was taken.

• Lopez Island deputies responded to a residence on a open 911 call. Upon arrival, the homeowner denied making any calls to 911 or otherwise. They suspect a phone system malfunction and will follow up with CenturyLink.

• A deputy stopped a motorist on Fisherman Bay Road and issued him a ticket for not wearing his seatbelt.

• A deputy stopped a motorist for speeding near the Lopez Island School. The deputy issued the driver a ticket for speeding, no vehicle insurance and for not having a valid driver’s license.

• A Lopez deputy responded to Ferry Road for a dog at large complaint. The reporting person stated she saw the dog running loose in the road. It was learned the dog owner was off island. The dog was returned to the dog-sitter, who stated she was unaware the dog had left the property.

• A vessel was given a second infraction for day use only violation at the West Sound San Juan County boat dock.

• Deputies were called to the area of Kings Market in Friday Harbor to investigate an RV parked on the sidewalk. The vehicle was issued a notice of infraction.

• A deputy responded to a reported burglary of a private storage building on Orcas Island. Approximately $1,500 dollars worth of items had been taken, including a firearm. The case is under further investigation.

July 11

• A decatur Island man reported that his dog had been injured, possibly shot with a BB or pellet gun. The wound to the dog is not life threatening, but did require veterinary care. The case is under investigation.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a shoplift. Currently this case is still under investigation and the suspect is not known at this time.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of an animal at large. The deputy took custody of the two dogs that were found and returned them to the owner.

• A citizen turned in a pack left at the pullout on West Side Road near Lime Kiln Park. No owner appeared for over 24 hours, so the item was logged into evidence as found property. No claim was filed by the finder. It will be held pending contact with the owner, and disposed of according to law after 80 days.

• A deputy conducted a traffic stop for expired registration. The vehicle had a current tab on an expired plate. The tab belonged to a different vehicle. The vehicle was not registered to the driver. The vehicle was towed. The driver received infractions for the violations.

July 12

• A Friday Harbor resident contacted a Lopez Island deputy regarding an issue involving a transaction on Lopez. The reporting party was asked to contact the seller to try to resolve the issue, as the matter is entirely civil. No further action was taken.

• A deputy was dispatched to the Friday harbor area in reference to an illegal camping call. The deputy arrived and made contact with the suspect. After several attempts, the suspect refused to leave the area. The suspect was arrested for obstructing law enforcement and booked at the county jail.
