Portland-based SeaPort Airlines has begun flight service to Boeing Field.

The upshot is that San Juan Island residents can now make it to Portland without having to go through SeaTac, by using Kenmore Air and SeaPort Airlines.

Out of Boeing Field on weekdays, there are eight scheduled flights to Portland, four on weekends. Through July, the cost is $75 one-way. Visit www.seaportair.com for more information or call (888) 573-2767.

‘People of the Cedar’ Saturday at English Camp
Richard Vanderway returns to the island with a collection of replica objects to provide a glimpse of Northwest Coast Indian culture Saturday, 2 p.m., in the English Camp barracks.

The program is free. A golf cart is available to transport physically challenged persons from the parking area to the barracks. Call 378-2902 or 378-4409 for access information.

Vanderway is the education coordinator for Bellingham’s Whatcom Museum, where he has been presenting the “People of the Cedar” for more than 30 years. This year marks his 13th anniversary of bringing the program to English Camp.

The program includes a demonstration of bentwood box salmon cooking.

Dr. Hayden is guest at F.H. Presbyterian
Dr. Paul Hayden, former pastor of Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church, returns July 27, 10 a.m., to deliver the sermon as guest preacher.

This summer is the 20th anniversary of the dedication of the current Presbyterian Church building. This is an important milestone leading up the Presbyterian Church’s 150th anniversary on San Juan Island, to be celebrated in 2010.

It is very fitting that the congregation welcomes back to its pulpit Dr. Paul Hayden, who was the pastor of Friday Harbor Presbyterian Church 20 years ago during a time of spiritual and physical up-building for the congregation,” current Pastor Joe Bettridge said.

“Paul has many friends on San Juan Island. The congregation is looking forward to a day of reunion and encouragement in God’s Word as Paul shares with (me) in leading worship on Sunday, July 27.”
