Presentation to feature history, future of grange halls in Washington state

Holly Taylor, a historic preservation consultant from Vashon Island, and a doctoral student at the University of Washington, will talk about her research on the history and preservation of grange halls, Oct. 15, 7 p.m.

San Juan Island Grange is hosting the Grange Halls of Washington State program Oct. 15, 7 p.m, preceded by at pot-luck at 6 p.m.

Holly Taylor, a historic preservation consultant from Vashon Island, and a doctoral student at the University of Washington, will present her research on the history and preservation of grange halls in Washington state. She has visited over 200 grange halls looking at characteristics of both purpose-built halls, and those that were originally built for other uses such as schools, churches, clubhouses and commercial buildings. .

Her presentation will also touch on why Washington has more grange members than any other state in the country.
