The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Feb. 28

• A Friday Harbor resident walked into the station, wishing to speak to a deputy about an animal issue. The deputy made phone contact with the reporting party, contacted the other individual involved and completed an informational report.

• An Orcas deputy responded to an attempted theft of a package left at the doorstep of an Eastsound resident. This is one case of several mail thefts that has occurred in that area.

• An Orcas deputy responded to two different reports of mail theft in the Eastsound area.

• A Friday Harbor deputy responded to a walk-in report of a fraud that occurred online. Upon speaking with the involved person, it was discovered that the complainant suffered no financial loss as a result of the incident.

• Evidence was collected by San Juan Island deputies that indicated a defendant had violated his conditions of release.

• A San Juan Island deputy investigated a traffic accident at a local business. The vehicle lost the use of its brakes and collided with the side of the building. The driver was not impaired.

March 1

• A deputy responded to threats between two students at Friday Harbor Elementary. The deputy met with the principal and involved parties and completed a report.

• An Orcas Island citizen reported a vehicle driving recklessly in the Eastsound area.

• A Friday Harbor deputy responded to a report of a two-car accident on San Juan Island. One driver was transported to the hospital and released after being treated. One driver was issued a citation. Both cars were towed due to damages.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a complaint of traffic violations occurring in the village. The driver was located and reminded of the appropriate traffic laws.

• An Orcas deputy learned of an additional victim of mail theft in Eastsound. An investigation is still ongoing.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a driver for defective vehicle tail lights. The driver was issued a citation for defective equipment and not having a valid operator’s license on person.

March 2

• A San Juan Island deputy was contacted at the sheriff’s office in reference to a domestic dispute. The person provided a statement on the incident. The other person involved was contacted at another location and was arrested for assault and booked into custody.

• A Lopez deputy was sent to check on a person who was possibly ill or impaired arriving on the ferry from Anacortes. The person was contacted and found to be just fine.

• A San Juan Island deputy was contacted at the sheriff’s office in reference to threats. The person complained that threats were yelled at them from a moving vehicle. The person did not want any enforcement action at this time but wanted the incident documented.

• A deputy was dispatched to the San Juan Island area in reference to a domestic dispute. The caller advised that there had been an incident earlier in the day with a relative.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle and found the driver had an expired registration. The driver was issued an infraction for not having insurance.

• A deputy stopped a driver on San Juan Island and found the vehicle had defective equipment and an expired vehicle license and the driver had an expired driver’s license. Several citations were issued.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for not using a turn signal and issued the driver a citation.

• An Orcas deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was given a citation for driving 39 miles per hour in a 25 miles per hour zone.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for driving 42 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued a citation for driving 39 mph in a 25 mph zone.

March 3

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for expired tabs. The driver was issued a citation for expired vehicle registration over two months.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a two-vehicle collision.

• A deputy was dispatched to an order violation on San Juan Island. The involved persons were contacted, and there was no violation of the court order.

• A deputy settled a civil dispute between neighbors on San Juan Island.

March 4

• A Lopez Island woman reported that someone had gotten into her car and taken items while it was parked at the Spit.

• A Lopez Island deputy stopped a Seattle man for speeding on Fisherman Bay Road and issued an infraction for going 43 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A San Juan Island deputy was contacted regarding a hit-and-run. The caller advised that some mailboxes were previously knocked down when there was snow on the ground.

March 5

• A Lopez Island deputy was called regarding an unruly patron at a local business. The subject left the premises when told they were no longer welcome there.

• A deputy was contacted at the sheriff’s office in reference to a hit-and-run on San Juan Island.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for an inoperative brake light. The driver was issued a criminal citation for not having a valid operator’s license.

• A deputy on Orcas stopped a vehicle for speeding. The driver was issued an infraction for driving 53 mph in a 35 mph zone and not having insurance.

• A Tacoma man was stopped and ticketed for speeding in a delivery truck. He was driving 45 mph in a 25 mph zone on Fisherman Bay Road near Lopez Village.

• A San Juan Island deputy responded to a walk-in report of a possible order violation. It was determined that a violation did not occur.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor received a report of a vehicle collision. A state collision report was completed, and the drivers exchanged information.

• San Juan Island deputies responded to a landlord-tenant dispute. Both parties were informed of the landlord-tenant laws and shown where to find them online. The issue was resolved at that time.

March 6

• A Friday Harbor deputy arrested an individual on an outstanding warrant out of Kitsap County. The individual was booked into jail and a report was made.

•An Orcas Island deputy responded to an animal-at-large call. The animal was taken to the shelter, and the owner was contacted. The animal had current tags.
