Only Friday Harbor Port District 3 voters received primary ballots on SJI

San Juan Islanders only had one race to vote on in the Aug. 1 Primary Election, the Port of Friday Harbor Port Commission race. Three candidates filed, and all three were on the ballot. The top two progressed to the General Election. However, many San Juan voters did not receive a ballot.

Camolyn Armstrong, Elections Manager explained. “The law states ‘only the voters of a commissioner district may vote at a primary to nominate candidates for a commissioner of the commissioner district. Voters of the entire port district may vote at a general election to elect a person as a commissioner of the commissioner district” RCW 53.12.010 (1)(b).’”

Only the voters in Port of Friday Harbor District 3 were eligible to vote in the primary. All voters in the Port of Friday Harbor District, however, will vote to elect District 3 Commissioner in the General Election on Nov. 7.
