League of Women Voters to host candidate forums

The League of Women Voters of the San Juans will be sponsoring candidate forums on each of the four main islands for state and local contests in the 2016 general election.

Expected to in attendance for all four meetings are Kevin Ranker and Daniel Miller, running for Washington State Senator District 40; Bob Jarman and Bill Watson, running for San Juan County Council District 1; and Rick Huges and Michael Durland, running for San Juan County Council District 2.

The League of Women Voters of the San Juans has been presenting nonpartisan public forums throughout the islands for over 20 years, allowing candidates to state their positions, and helping voters to make informed decisions.

LWV, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.For more information, go to www.lwvwa.org.Monday, Oct. 3 at the Shaw Community Center on Shaw Island at 5 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Eastsound Fire Station on Orcas Island at 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Grace Episcopal Church on Lopez Island at 5 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 6 at The Grange on San Juan Island at 5:30 p.m.
