The San Juan County Sheriff’s Dept. responded to the following calls.

Feb. 17

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of found property. The property’s owner was located, and the property was returned.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a fraud. The investigation is ongoing.

• An Orcas deputy responded to an ongoing parking problem at the Obstruction Pass Marine facility.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a residential burglary. The victim did not want to pursue charges though the incident was documented.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of vandalism. A suspect was trespassed from the property and charges were forwarded to the prosecutor.

• Orcas deputies were dispatched with Orcas Island Fire and Rescue to a motor vehicle accident. The driver was transported off island for a medical evaluation. The investigation is ongoing.

Feb. 18

• A deputy on Orcas received a parking complaint at the ferry terminal. A 72-hour parking violation notice was placed on the vehicle.

• On San Juan, a deputy recovered lost property and returned it to its owner.

• A deputy responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident on San Juan. After an investigation, the deputy noted the victim’s vehicle didn’t sustain damage and had no signs of being in contact with another vehicle.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for a seat belt violation. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license-second degree and was issued citations for failing to wear a seat belt and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of a single vehicle collision. The driver was no longer at the scene. The registered owner was contacted and made arrangements to remove the vehicle.

• Orcas deputies responded to a report of missing woman who was known to have memory problems. After an exhaustive search, she was found the following day and appeared to be in good condition.

Feb. 20

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a reported hit-and-run. There is no suspect at present.

• The driver of a vehicle on San Juan was stopped by a deputy for traveling 63 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a downed tree partially blocking Aleck Bay Road. Public Works responded and cleared the tree from the road.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a theft complaint. The property in question was returned and the issue was resolved to the complainant’s satisfaction.

• A deputy spoke with a Lopez resident about a reckless driving incident on Mud Bay Road. The Lopezian said another driver sped by her, crossed a double yellow line and sped into a blind curve. The matter was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office as a criminal complaint.

• A speeding driver on San Juan was noticed by a deputy. The deputy stopped the driver who was issued a citation for driving 15 mph over the speed limit and for having an expired registration.

• A deputy on Lopez issued a driver a warning for speeding.

• San Juan deputies were dispatched to a report of a hit-and-run collision involving damaged property. Witnesses were unable to fully identify the vehicle and no likely suspect was located in the search that followed.

Feb. 21

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a citizen dispute. The dispute was settled and a citation for a dog-at-large was issued. Additional charges will be referred to the prosecutor.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to the ferry landing about a reported disorderly person aboard the arriving ferry. The person had gone into an area that was off-limits. The subject was warned of the consequences of his behavior including arrest, expulsion and denial of future service by the Washington State Ferries system.

• Deputies were dispatched to a report of an assault near Eastsound. A report was filed, and the case was referred to the office of the prosecuting attorney for review.

• On Lopez, a deputy gave a driver a warning for speeding.

• A deputy on Orcas took a report of vandalism. The investigation is ongoing.

• A San Juan deputy observed a person driving who was known to have a suspended driver’s license. The report was sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

Feb. 22

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a call about a hit-and-run. The suspect was located, received a citation for improperly backing up and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. A citation for the hit-and-run of an unattended vehicle was forwarded to the prosecutor.

• A deputy responded to a request for a welfare check in Friday Harbor. The person involved was located, did not appear to be in distress and declined assistance.

• In Eastsound, a deputy checked on a report of a non-injury collision. An investigation is underway. Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.

Feb. 23

• A deputy responded to a report of a person in a possible crisis. After talking with the deputy, the person did not appear to be in distress.

• On Orcas, a deputy conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 53 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a fraud complaint. An elderly person had been contacted by someone claiming the person had won a large sum of money. The caller was able to elicit several cash payments from the victim.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a report of a naked female walking down the middle of the street in traffic. After speaking with the woman, the deputy placed her in protective custody and transported her to the hospital for an evaluation.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a female defecating on the sidewalk.

• A deputy conducted a welfare check at a residence on Lopez after a school official reported being concerned for the welfare of a student. The deputy found no evidence that the child was in immediate distress.
