Deobrat Mishra to perform at Brickworks

Deobrat Mishra is one of the most energetic and innovative sitar artists in India and will be performing on Friday, Sept. 30 at Brickworks from 7:30–9:30 p.m.

Deobrat Mishra is one of the most energetic and innovative sitar artists in India and will be performing on Friday, Sept. 30 at Brickworks from 7:30–9:30 p.m.

Mishra has received many awards and began performing on stage since he was five. Selectivity, melody and rhythmic complexity are typical features of his lively playing style. He is the director of the Benares Academy of Classical Indian Music, which provides a school and a home for students ranging from international travelers to the community of “untouchables” in India. Music instruction offered by scholarships are made possible by the concerts he holds.

DAYA Foundation is a change-agent organization. The foundation empowers students to discover their essential life skills through the tools of yoga, including asana, pranayama, meditation, community, inquiry, music and dharma. It teaches diverse populations, including those isolated by circumstances such as trauma, incarceration, residential treatment centers, mental health challenges, or sensori-motor diversities.

DAYA also provides teacher training programs for NW prisons, developing teaching communities on the inside.
