Community potluck set to honor orca Granny

Submitted by The Whale Museum

Join us for a special tribute to honor Granny, J2, on Sunday, Feb. 12. The event is a community potluck, taking place from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Brickworks in Friday Harbor. Granny was the matriarch of the Southern resident community of orcas. Estimated to be 105 years of age when she passed, she was well-known around the world and much loved by many.

During the tribute, there will be opportunities to share photos of and stories about Granny and the orcas. The event is free and open to the public. Please bring food and/or drinks to share with attendees. And, if you feel moved to do so, please bring your Granny memories! The tribute is co-hosted by the Town of Friday Harbor and The Whale Museum. Prior to the event, you are invited to create an eight-by-eight paper piece of art, or drawing, that will be included in the Granny quilt, which will be displayed at the tribute event. Stop by The Whale Museum on Friday, Feb. 10 between 2:30 and 4 p.m. to create your square. For info call 378-4710 ext. 30. The Whale Museum is online at www.whalemuseum.org.
