Women of Color in Leadership Speaker Series: The Power of Representation

Submitted by the San Juan Island Library.

Lobbyist and advocate Paula Sardinas will appear on Aug. 28 to discuss the critical role she and other Black and Indigenous women played in the passage of Washington’s Climate Commitment Act of 2021. Their tireless advocacy and unwavering dedication ensured that the voices and perspectives of marginalized communities were not only heard but actively incorporated into this legislation. These women’s lived experiences and unique insights brought to light the intersectional impacts of climate change, emphasizing the urgent need for environmental justice.

Join us to discuss how women of color in leadership act as catalysts for change, break barriers, and drive forward a more inclusive and equitable society for all. This event will be held virtually via Zoom on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.

This talk, originally scheduled for June but postponed, is the second of a three-part speaker series hosted by the San Juan Island Library and The Madrona Institute, with funding from the San Juan Island Community Foundation 2022 County Fair Giving Campaign. The series will conclude in September.
