Volunteer opportunities with the Land Bank

Submitted by the San Juan County Conservation Land Bank

The Land Bank has two upcoming volunteer opportunities this month, led by field assistant, Shauna Barrows!

Help plant native shrubs at Zylstra Lake Preserve on Feb. 16. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The water from winter rains is receding and stewardship staff is ready to pounce on the first opportunity to get native shrubs into the ground!

Join Land Bank Field Assistant, Shauna Barrows, and get your hands in the dirt while learning about habitat restoration efforts at the Preserve.

Meet at the Zylstra Lake Preserve parking area. We’ll provide some tools. Muck boots are highly recommended! Please bring gloves, water, and a snack. RSVP not required but appreciated.

Islanders may also help clear invasive blackberries while hiking the Goldenback Trail at Westside Preserve on Feb. 22. from 1-3 p.m.

Hike up the Goldenback Trail with Land Bank Field Assistant, Shauna Barrows, and help clear weeds along the way! Enjoy the amazing views and learn about the Land Bank’s oak restoration work while cutting back invasive blackberries.

Meet at the Westside northernmost pullout, closest to Deadman Bay Preserve. Gloves and tools provided. Please bring water and a snack. RSVP not required but appreciated. For more information or to RSVP, contact Tanja Williamson at 360-378-4402 or tanjaw@sjclandbank.org.
