Alison Post began singing in the backseat of the family station wagon.

Later, she joined a rock band and performed in the bar scene.

Now she performs “folk songs with sweet melodies and simple accompaniment” and often bursts into song with her daughters on her home on Waldron Island as they walk along beaches and dusty roads.

Post will be performing in San Juan with Lopez accompanist Mark Minkler and Carolyn Cruso on Thursday, Sept. 22, 7 p.m. at Isle Be Jammin’, 310 B, Spring St.

Post’s music is inspired by not only nature, but Joan Armatrading, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, Taj Mahal and Greg Brown.

Carolyn Cruso, of Orcas Island, is also inspired by the local scenery, as well as her travels across the U.S. and Europe. Cruso uses guitars, a flute, a hammered dulcimer and her voice to take the listener on what she calls a journey of beauty, love, redemption, compassion and humor.

She has performed with a variety of entertainers from jugglers, to comedians, to mimes and contortionists.

Her show is a combination of instrumental and original vocal pieces, drawing material from her eight albums including her most recent release “Have You Ever,” which features fourteen songs spanning folk, pop, jazz and alternative country.

Her lyrics span from poetic to narrative and explore love, loss and regeneration.
