Trails Committee holds two New Year events

Submitted by the San Juan Island Trails Committee

Do you know about Washington State Parks & Recreation Commission First Day hikes? Lucky us, San Juan County will be the beneficiary of TWO this Jan. 1, 2024! All hikes are free, and a Discover Pass is NOT needed to park on state-managed lands on Jan. 1.

San Juan Island: Take a stroll around Lime Kiln Point State Park with Park Ranger McElhaney. Hike to the Whale Wall, the Lime Kiln Point Lighthouse, and the oldest manmade structure in WA State Parks the historic Lime Kilns. This is the perfect opportunity to get to know more about the park, its rich history, and celebrate the New Year.

Lopez Island: Spencer Spit State Park Ranger Meghan Alexander will lead hikers to the Land Bank’s recently opened Spencer Spit Preserve on Lopez Island, which is accessible only through the state park’s existing trail system. There will be hot chocolate, cider and tea to boot!
