New Town exhibit explores San Juan Island’s Old Military Road. The Town of Friday Harbor is installing a new local history exhibit in the Sunshine Alley breezeway featuring the Old Military Road. The six-panel display tells the story of a road that connected American and English soldiers geographically, socially, and politically during the Pig War joint occupation years ago on San Juan Island. “This exhibit also introduces the continuing efforts of the Old Military Road Trail Committee to create a commemorative trail honoring our island’s unique history and beauty,” said OMRT chairperson Robin Donnelly.

The OMRT invites the public to a ribbon cutting at noon Monday, May 1 at the breezeway located at the intersection of Second and Spring Streets. The installation coincides with Friday Harbor’s History Lives Here month and will be on display until spring 2024.
