Shipwrecks, disguises, brash—sometimes foolhardy—suitors, gender roles in reverse, and mistaken identities… sounds like cornerstones of a Shakespeare comedy.

And, it is.

Island Stage Left heads home to the outdoor stage on Wold Road for nine performances in its summer 2014 presentation of “Shakespeare Under the Stars,” featuring the Bard’s classic rib-tickling and heart-tugging romantic comedy, “Twelfth Night,” beginning Friday, Aug. 8.

Written just after “Hamlet”, “Twelfth Night” reveals a more mature Shakespeare, writing about the wonders of reconciliation, of second chances and of redemption, still paired with his trademark laugh-out-loud comedy, and with a liberal dose of romance added in.

On the heels of a three-week run at Roche Harbor Resort and opening week in outer islands, the Stage Left troupe will no doubt be in top-flight form for the three-week finale. Performances are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, starting at 8:30 p.m.

Each show is festival seating, first-come, first served in shuffle for space, and play-goers are encouraged to bring a jacket, warm clothing or blankets to help ward off the night chill, as daytime temperatures drop as the sun slips past the horizon, and stars come out to shine.
