Soroptimists partner with Community Foundation to raise funds for cancer transportation

Submitted by Soroptimists International of Friday Harbor.

Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor is launching a fundraising campaign in cooperation with the San Juan County Fair Community Foundation Matching Grant program.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 to support our Cancer Treatment Transportation Fund during the week of the fair, Aug. 17-20. The Community Foundation will match the first $1,000 raised and SIFRI will be eligible for up to $2,500 in additional grants throughout the week.

Our Cancer Treatment Transportation Fund program provides ferry tickets to residents and their caregiver traveling off San Juan Island for treatment. Since 2018 we have spent $47k on this program, and demand grows annually. In the first 6 months of 2022 alone, we have spent almost $7k. Without funding, we cannot continue to support this unique and essential program for our community.

Giving begins at 12:01 a.m. Aug 17 and ends at 11:59 p.m. Aug. 20. Supporters can donate online at www.sjicf.org/fair (SIFRI will have a unique page link), in-person at the Community Foundation fair booth, by phone to SJICF at 360-378-1001, or by mailing a check payable to the Community Foundation, SJICF (dated between Aug. 17–20) with Soroptimist International of Friday Harbor in the memo line. SJICF, P.O. Box 1352, Friday Harbor, WA 98250. Unfortunately, direct donations to SIFRI WILL NOT be counted toward the matching grant program. Look for Soroptimist volunteers at the Fair Gates throughout the week and at the SJICF Fair Booth Thursday, Aug. 18, from 4-5:30 p.m..
