SJCT Reader’s Theatre features gender politics comedy

Submitted by the San Juan Community Theatre

A comedic look at gender politics is the theme behind San Juan Community Theatre’s next edition of its On Book! Readers Theatre series.

Gina Gionfriddo’s “Rapture, Blister, Burn” will be presented at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28 and Wednesday, March 1 in the Gubelman Theatre. After grad school, Catherine and Gwen chose polar opposite paths. Catherine built a career as a rockstar academic, while Gwen built a home with her husband and children. Decades later, unfulfilled in polar opposite ways, each woman covets the other’s life, commencing a dangerous game of musical chairs – the prize being Gwen’s husband.

This play has adult language and situations. It’s directed by Therese Finn and featured readers are Gretchen Gubelman, Julie Greene, Tracy James, Madrona Jameson and Paul Walsh.

Doors open at 7 p.m. with festival seating; admission is free. For more information on the series and other theater events, visit sjctheatre.org.
