The Sailing Club will be kicking off the New Year with their annual Saluting the Compass Jan. 1 at Shipyard Cove. Sailing begins at 11:30 a.m., with a potluck celebration at 12:30 p.m. Saluting the Compass is part of the annual opening ceremony and honors the vital role the compass plays in maritime navigation.

When the sun reaches its zenith, participants will raise their glasses in a silent toast to the compass, acknowledging its unwavering guidance.
