Saint David’s Episcopal Church is pleased to announce the call of the Rev. Abby d’Ambruoso as priest-in-charge. D’Ambruoso begins work at St. David’s on Sept. 1. Her first Sunday to celebrate Holy Eucharist will take place at 9:30 a.m., Sept. 7. All in the community are encouraged to attend.

Serving for the past two years in the remote North Cascades as the Village Pastor at Holden Village, d’Ambruoso spent much time in discernment and listening for the call of the Holy Spirit. To her delight, her path has led to a partnership with St. David’s in Friday Harbor as priest-in-charge. Joining her in the transition from mountain valley to island will be her spouse, Will, and their son, August (15), and daughter, Greta (12). While they will be on the lookout for whales rather than wolverines, they will still be dependent on ferries.

D’Ambruoso grew up in Oregon, studied Spanish and religion at St. Olaf College in Minnesota, and then attended Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California. Completing a yearlong residency in clinical pastoral education, she later became a board-certified chaplain. Ordained in 2008 in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, d’Ambruoso’s first call was to Faith Lutheran in Seattle as a pastor for youth and family, then as pastor-redeveloper for Fir-Conway Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon, Washington. When her spouse’s career brought them to Maine, d’Ambruoso worked for six years as chaplain in pediatrics and obstetrics at the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland, Maine.

D’Ambruoso enjoys cooking, singing, a good conversation, studying languages, fiber arts and pottery and exploring the natural world on foot and on the water.
