Ompah-pah-pah, celebrate fall in Bavarian style, Oktoberfest

Enjoy a Bavarian-themed evening of fun, games and events, complete with beer, brats and desserts, and bring your German heritage dog along for a Dachshund race, Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Friday Harbor fairgrounds, beginning at 5 p.m.

Fall is officially here, and with it comes the 19th “almost annual” Oktoberfest Celebration. The festivities get under way at the fairgrounds, Oct. 11, beginning at 5 p.m.

Enjoy a Bavarian-themed evening of fun, games and events, complete with beer, brats and desserts. Bring your German heritage dog for a Dachshund race.

The Blaskapelle Oompah band will perform traditional Bavarian-style Oompah music, accompanied with sing-alongs, polka dancing, and costume contest.

An appearance by San Juan Island’s own Cutthroat Pirates, in force, is also expected.

In years past, attendance trumped 300—this year organizers anticipate even more sausage-eating, suspender-wearing, beer-drinking islanders to join in the fun.

The evening is sponsored by The Lions Club, Friday Harbor Chapter of Soroptimists International, the Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. Wear a Bavarian-themed costume for free admission.
