Odeonquartet performs Nov. 7 with Chamber Music San Juans

Chamber Music San Juans host some special guests Nov. 7 (today): the accomplished string quartet Odeonquartet. They will play a selection of Russian pieces at the San Juan Community Theatre, beginning at 2 p.m. Fresh from a Moscow tour earlier this year, the musicians will play an array of Russian chamber music — from Pavel Karmanov’s 1997 minimalist, baroque-informed string quartet; to Glazunov’s 1892 richly-orchestrated cello quintet.

Formed in 1999, Odeonquartet features violinists Gennady Filimonov and Artur Girsky, violist Heather Bentley and cellist Rowena Hammill. Guest cellist Douglas Davis will also be performing. The larger part of the quartet are international, hailing from countries as diverse as the former Soviet Union, Latvia and Australia.

As a group, they are dedicated to presenting concerts that reflect the diversity of American and international musical styles. They also try to introduce rarely performed and previously unheard contemporary chamber music of the highest quality.

The business partner for the evening is Fine Art Photography by Robert Hare Stavers. Tickets are $26 for adults, $13 for student reserved with $5 RUSH at the door.

The theater Box Office is open Tuesdays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.sjctheatre.org.
