Mentorships at Alchemy Art Center

Submitted by Alchemy Art Center.

Alchemy Art Center, in partnership with the San Juan County Arts Council, is offering a mentorship opportunity for young people in the Spring of 2020. This mentorship program will match two high school students with one adult artist in each department at Alchemy — ceramics, photography and printmaking/painting/drawing. This program will take place over the course of eight weeks, beginning in mid-February and culminating in an exhibition of the students’ work on April 10.

This arts-focused mentoring opportunity is a collaborative project between Alchemy Art Center and the San Juan County Arts Council. Our goal is to foster mentoring relationships between adult artists and youth in our community.

The adult in each department will work with their young people to help them develop art pieces to display in a final exhibition. The mentor and mentees will work collaboratively to find out what the young person is most interested in creating and bring that dream into reality. Mentors will support their young people to hone specific skills, explore mediums, and ultimately generate finished pieces for display in the community.

This eight-week program will take place on Thursdays after school, from 3:45-6 p.m., beginning Feb. 13 and ending April 2. The final show will be on April 10.

This program is free of charge. Applicants will be interviewed before final decisions are made. Applications are now open and are due no later than Jan. 2.
