Lopez artist earns top award at Zion National Park benefit

The week-long event, entitled “In the Footsteps of Thomas Moran”, featured 24 nationally recognized artists, including Lopez Island's Steven Hill, from around the U.S. that were invited to participate.

Lopez Island artist Steven Hill received one of the top purchase prizes, $1,600, in the 5th Annual Zion National Park Plein Air Painting Invitational, Nov. 8, for his painting “Virgin River Guardian” which was done en Plein air at Zion National Park.

The week-long event, entitled “In the Footsteps of Thomas Moran”, featured 24 nationally recognized artists from around the U.S. that were invited to participate.

The paintings generated more than $140,000 in sales in two days, with 40 percent of the proceeds donated to support various programs at Zion National Park.
