Geyman to join legendary San Juan aviators in ‘Wall of Honor’

Dr. John Geyman will be inducted into San Juan Aviation Museum's "Wall of Honor" in a ceremony at Friday Harbor Airport's Roy Franklin Terminal, Sunday, April 27, beginning at 2 p.m.

Dr. John Geyman becomes the 7th recipient of the San Juan Pilots’ Association annual award honoring contributions to aviation on San Juan Island.

On Sunday, April 27, Geyman will be inducted—and more than likely roasted, in a friendly way, if history holds—into the San Juan Aviation Museum’s “Wall of Honor” as part of a ceremony at Friday Harbor Airport’s Roy Franklin Terminal, beginning at 2 p.m.

Geyman served as chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at University of Washington until 1990, then moved to San Juan Island where he practiced medicine until 1997. He was instrumental in establishing The Eagles, a group of pilots on San Juan Island who fly cancer patients to and from the mainland for treatment.

Geyman has also served on the board of directors of San Juan Pilots’ Association, helped establish the San Juan Aviation Museum and is an active member of the United Flying Octogenarians (UFOs).

Previous “Wall of Honor” recipients are: Roy Franklin (2008), Marty Stewart (2009), Bob Nichols (2010), Dr. Malcolm Heath (2011), Frank Brame (2012), and Marilyn and Les LaBar (2013).

The Port of Friday Harbor and San Juan Pilot’s Association invites the public to attend the ceremony and learn more about early island aviation stories and enjoy light refreshments.
