A screening of the documentary “I Am” will be the opening act of Friday Harbor Film Festival’s series of documentary films, aired every Tuesday, at Festival headquarters, 10 First Street in Friday Harbor, beginning at 7 p.m.

Produced by veteran Hollywood film director and author Tom Shadyac (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Patch Adams) “I Am” traces the story of a man who had it all, until something happened that made him realize he might have it all… wrong.

Following a near-death experience of his own, Shadyac created a film with the intent to spark conservation about two questions that are inextricably linked: What’s wrong with our world, and what can we do about it?

Shaydac travels the globe to interview the greatest thinkers of the day, and though filming a documentary, the film reveals a plot-twist straight out of a blockbuster movie – about connections. In the end, the film unearths not so much what is wrong about the world, but what is right about it in spite of it all.

I Am” was the winner of both the Audience Choice Award and the Student Choice Award at the Mountain Film Festival in Telluride Colorado, where it premiered in May.
