Easter arrives in familiar fashion on San Juan Island, with a host of popular activities in store. Mostly it’s the dates that are different.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt at Jackson’s Beach, sponsored by San Juan Island Fire & Rescue, begins at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 20. The highlight of the popular event is of course the hunt for brightly colored easter eggs and plastic ones, too, which can be redeemed for prizes (no more than two per child). The hunting grounds will be divided into four areas to accommodate children of varying ages: 0-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12.

The shiny Ladder Fire Engine 317 of San Juan Island Fire Department will be at the beach and expect a visit by the Easter Bunny. Donation of a can of food for the Friday Harbor Food Bank is a goodwill gesture that’s always well received.

Get a head start on the Easter spirit by joining the firefighters association for a pre-hunt egg-dying coloring extravaganza Friday, April 18, at the Town Fire Station, across the street from Kings Market parking lot, beginning at 5 p.m.

On the north end of the island, Roche Harbor Resort will host an Easter Egg Hunt of its own as well, Sunday, from 1-2 p.m. Chances are the Easter Bunny will make an appearance at the resort as well.

The Teen Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt returns to Turnbull Gym, Friday, April 18. A free holiday activity sponsored by Island Rec, the programs features indoor games (bring court shoes) as well as the signature hunt for brightly colored eggs by flashlight, don’t forget to bring yours.
