Attention island families

Submitted by Rotary

Summer vacation is just around the corner, so it’s time for families on San Juan Island who need assistance to sign up for weekend nutrition. The Rotary Foundation of the San Juan Islands 36 Weekends program will serve the children/families of San Juan Island this summer as we have been all school year, with nutritious food. Please spread the word, and feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

The food offerings have been tailored so students can prepare the meals with just a microwave and seasonally fresh foods are included. Foods are delivered to your doorstep each Thursday or Friday to assist working parents. Who is eligible? All students including those in the Head Start Program, elementary, middle school and high school. The easiest way to sign up is to go to the link below and fill out the forms electronically. Signups are in both English and Spanish.

Please be aware this program is privately funded, with no government requirements or reporting. Counselors and or school office managers/counselors can provide paper copies to families interested in the program or they can access signup on-line. Below the electronic signups are PDF copies that can be printed out.

Nearly 50% of island children attending public schools are enrolled in free and reduced-cost lunch programs. These children are all subject to food insecurity, especially in summer when they do not have access to school food support.

Rotary is always looking for individuals or entities wishing to donate or volunteer for our 36 Weekends program, please go to https://rotaryf :oundationsanjuanislands.org/36-weekends for more information or the SJI Community Foundation at https://sjicf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=2783. Donations are tax-deductible.

Interested in volunteering to pack or deliver food? Contact Steve Bowman at 360-378-5814. It is fun to participate and is a very small time commitment once a week. Your funds and/or time will help reduce food insecurity and increase access to healthy food for children throughout the island.
