APS fundraiser pays tribute to Gann

Pet Lovers Fair, grand prize, mile stroll featured in first-ever APS Dodie Gann Memorial Dog Walk. Water and snack stations will be available along the route to provide sustenance for both people and pooches, and participants can also mingle with pet care industry vendors and service providers.

The Friday Harbor Animal Protection Society will pay tribute to a founding member and longtime supporter in “The First Annual Dodie Gann Memorial Dog Walk,” the first-ever of its kind fundraiser for APS.

The Memorial Dog Walk kicks off Saturday, May 31, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning and ending at Skagit Valley College San Juan Center, with a roundtrip one-mile stroll to the animal shelter, and back, along the airport trail.

Water and snack stations will be available along the route to provide sustenance for both people and pooches, and participants can also mingle with pet care industry vendors and service providers at a “Pet Lovers Fair” hosted by the college. A no-host lunch will be offered after the walk as well.

Participants are encouraged to gather sponsors for the walk, and a grand prize, an iPad Mini, valued at $300, will be awarded to the person with the largest sponsorship.

A longtime resident of San Juan Island, Dodi Gann passed away in December 2012. She was a supporter and member of the APS board of directors until her death.

Entry fees are $20 for adults, $10 for children age 12 and under. Registration and sponsorship forms are available at Friday Harbor Pet Supplies and The Barking Bird, co-sponsors of the Memorial Dog Walk.
