APS-FH Volunteer of the Month | Yoshi O’Connor

Submitted by the Animal Protection Society – Friday Harbor

The Animal Protection Society – Friday Harbor is happy to announce Yoshi O’Connor as the APS-FH Volunteer of the Month for May 2021. Yoshi began volunteering to help socialize cats at the animal shelter in October 2020. The focus of her volunteer efforts soon shifted to the Treasure Hounds home-decor resale store when she recognized that her creative and organizational talents could make a big difference there.

All proceeds from Treasure Hounds go to support APS-FH operations and Yoshi’s efforts have helped increase both donations and sales at the store. Yoshi now spends most of her volunteer time behind the scenes; sorting, cleaning, researching, and pricing donated items; coordinating donations; and arranging furniture vignettes on the showroom floor. In January, the store was closed for two weeks for a major organizational overhaul where Yoshi took the lead on the project – improving the store’s overall form and function.

Yoshi states, “being new to the island, volunteering at Treasure Hounds has provided me with friendship and community. I have enjoyed getting to know the regulars and having the chance to learn more about this great island.”

We are glad that volunteering at Treasure Hounds is a benefit to Yoshi because, in just seven months, Yoshi has become an indispensable member of the APS-FH volunteer team. Thanks so much Yoshi, you are making a difference in the lives of shelter animals.
