Did you know that art changes lives? For years, studies have shown that creative activities and opportunities benefit adults and kids in cognitive ability and problem-solving, social skills, and mental health. As we move into a digital world, physical creativity can connect us more deeply with the world around and within us, and offer insights, focus, and new ways of seeing.
Opportunities for art are limited in our rural community. Alchemy works to ensure that islanders have relevant and enriching access to the arts, despite our geographic isolation. Islanders deserve exposure to engaging and challenging concepts and techniques, diverse materials, and professional instruction.
Alchemy Art Center offers affordable studio memberships, classes for kids and adults (with tuition assistance options always available), and countless free or affordable community activities and events, many in partnership with other island organizations. This work is made possible through grants, programming revenue, and through donations of all sizes.
This spring, Alchemy is raising $21,500 to support the busy summer season of free outreach activities, to upgrade the extremely hardworking kilns that are essential to the Alchemy pottery community, and to make long-overdue improvements to the Dome building, which holds donation-based yoga, classes like figure drawing, art shows, and other community events.
In support of the fundraiser, Alchemy’s board of directors and a select group of staff and supporters are generously offering original art, handmade items, and unique experiences to the online auction! This wonderful selection of items is only available during the spring fundraiser, and most of one-of-a-kind. Supporters of Alchemy can also donate directly to their favorite cause without purchasing an item.
Alchemy Art Center’s Online Spring Fundraiser is active through May 5, 2024. To check out the delightful selection of items for purchase, and to contribute any amount (and really, any and every amount makes a difference), visit the Alchemy Art Center homepage at www.alchemyartcenter.com.
Alchemy Art Center, founded by Maria Michaelson and Eben Shay in 2017, is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to creating a thriving arts community on San Juan Island.
