Celebrate the summer with an irresistible musical lineup in the lovely picnic garden of Tenth House (located at 275 A St. in Friday Harbor)! From the heartbreakingly beautiful harmonies of Friday Harbor’s own youth band Corporeal to the beloved tunes of local favorites Shadow Basket to the rootsy Americana sounds of a touring musician and headline Kelly McFarling, this is a show not to be missed.
Kelly McFarling – https://www.kellymcfarling.com/.
Kelly McFarling grew up riding the prolific R&B radio stations and lady folk waves of Atlanta, Georgia, in the early ‘90s. This incubation translated to a songwriter anchored in melody, metaphor and potent observation. McFarling began playing original songs in the Bay Area as an adult and quickly became known for her dynamic live show. She spent the next decade touring and releasing music independently, earning a devoted following as a versatile indie-folk singer-songwriter with a spacious and tasty groove. Garnering comparisons to Laura Marling, Bonnie Raitt, and Dottie West, McFarling’s voice anchors into the power of well-crafted songs, delivered with emotion.
Shadow Basket – https://www.shadowbasket.com/.
Shadow Basket is a dog rock/indie folk band from San Juan Island. Their sets feature moody folk tunes and dynamically driven rock songs that evoke the essence of dreams, place-based memories and fables. Their performance brings artfully crafted sound elements, grounded harmonies and beguiling droney jams to any live music setting.
Corporeal – https://corporealsji.bandcamp.com/album/corporeal.
Corporeal is a band of young island musicians still navigating the throes of secondary school. Their lyrics reveal refreshing teen insight through an irresistibly nostalgic lens. Their hooky, harmony-driven songs conjure the girl groups of the ’60s, the DIY aesthetic of the original indie swell in Rough Trade-era England, as well as the simple, yet impactful K Records bands of the early ‘90s. This show will be the record release of Corporeal’s first album, recorded as part of John Wheatley’s band camp program through Spring Street International School.
