WHAT: Hospice of the Northwest is hosting a presentation about Advance Care Planning at the Mullis Center on Monday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. PT. Advance care planning ensures your goals, values and preferences are known — not only at the end of life, but if you become unable to communicate those desires due to illness or injury. Class participants will learn about documenting your healthcare wishes, choosing a healthcare agent and the forms you need in case of a medical emergency. The class and all documents are free of charge.

WHO: Advance care planning is for adults at any stage of life.

WHEN: Monday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. PT

WHERE: Mullis Community Senior Center, 589 Nash St, Friday Harbor

WHY: Research has shown that advance care planning increases the likelihood that healthcare providers and family members will comply a person’s wishes at the end of life — including their desire to die at home.

Advance care planning also reduces the emotional burden and moral distress often experienced by family members making healthcare decisions for a loved one.

HOW: The class is free and open to the public. If you have questions, please contact Hospice of the Northwest at 360-814-5550.
