On Saturday, April 21, my wife, Pat, and I joined many others to spend the morning picking up litter along island roads.

It was a lovely day and we enjoyed working to clean up our section of Cattle Point Road, between False Bay Road and the entrance to American Camp. We live down at Cattle Point, so this is a stretch of road we pass through to and from town. It was so nice to see the rest of the road cleared of litter.

Imagine our dismay Tuesday, as we drove through the park, along the open reach above the bluff, when we spotted a large cardboard carton in the ditch beside the road on the uphill side. Further along was more litter, including several plastic flower pots.

We strongly suggest that someone was driving an uncovered load to the transfer station on Sunday.

We all need to obey the requirement to cover all loads being carried in open vehicles. This is a beautiful island on which we are fortunate to live.

Let’s all work to keep it that way. Cover your load. Yours for a clean environment.
