FH tallies 11 personal bests at BCS Invite | Track & Field

"This was a great meet for us,” Coach Darrin Scheffer said. “The competition was fierce, the weather was great, and the athletes performed well.”

On Saturday, at the BCS Invitational at Sammamish High School, against 19 strong track teams, eleven Friday Harbor athletes set personal best times and distances in 18 different events.

Coach Darrin Scheffer liked everything about the BCS Invitational.

“This was a great meet for us,” he said. “The competition was fierce, the weather was great, and the athletes performed well.”

Although none of the personal bests won an event, Jerray Napier took second place in the high jump.

For this week, however, those personal bests are records that prove these 11 were the best they’ve ever been.

Five freshmen turned in personal best performances in 10 events: Jerray Napier, high jump, 5’10” (second place), Willie Blackmon, 300 m hurdles, 44:42; 200 m sprint, 24:82 Hallie Carrier, 100 m sprint, 17:03; javelin, 55’2”, Kori Rasmussen, shot put, 17’.75”; discus, 38’5”; javelin, 54’7”, and Genevieve Gislason, 200 m sprint, 32:04; shot put, 20’3.25”.

Three sophomore set personal records: Alaina Scheffer, 300 m hurdles, 58:87 seconds; javelin, 103’2”, Lenora Johnson, discus, 61’2”, Julia Miller, 800 m, 2:45.72; long jump, 11’10.5”.

Two juniors set personal bests: Cody Coyne, shotput, 28’9”, Jose Guerrero, 1600 m, 5:03.42.

One senior, Malcolm Wynn, set a personal best of 12:06.18 in the grueling 3200 m run.

Coach Scheffer’s spread the praise widely.

“I am especially proud of Malcolm Wynn for cutting 30 seconds off of his 3200 time, for Jerray Napier for his great high jump of 5’10”, for Julia Miller for consistently cutting her 800m time, and for Alaina Scheffer for improving her javelin mark from 82′ to 103’2″ in just three weeks.”
